MIAMI — They came to apply for work and left with a stolen car.
Tuesday, 18 year-old Casey Allan Womack and a 16 year-old juvenile, both from Miami, were charged in Ottawa County District Court with larceny of an automobile, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
According to the Miami Police Department's report, officers were dispatched at 4:56 p.m. on Wednesday to the City of Miami’s Operation Center located at 404 D SE in Miami in reference to a stolen car.
The owner of the vehicle, Jason Waldon, told police his 2003 Ford Focus had been stolen from the parking area of the City of Miami's Operations Center sometime after he parked there at 6:30 a.m. when he arrived for work.
A review of video surveillance recordings of the entry driveway to the Operations Center revealed the two males, Womack and the juvenile, walking inside the Operation Center at 12:49 p.m. on Tuesday. According to city employees, Womack and the juvenile asked about employment with the City of Miami and left.
MPD Officer Mark Hickey reported, the video shows both Womack and the juvenile exited the Operations Center and continued to walk on foot westbound on 4th Avenue SE. The video surveillance also shows at approximately 2:21 p.m. Womack and the juvenile are seen walking back east bound on foot on 4th Avenue SE.
“As the two male subjects approached the entry/exit gate, the male wearing the t-shirt and shorts appeared to kneel down at the gate while the male who was wearing the blue jeans enters the Operation Center and steals the grey in color Ford Focus from the parking lot,” Hickey wrote in his report. “As soon as the vehicle exited the parking lot, the male kneeling by the gate got in the passenger side and they left the scene east bound on 4th Avenue SE.”
Waldon told police he had left the keys in the car and the vehicle was unlocked and the windows were down.
