Shauntel Evans of North Commerce is the newest member of the Ottawa County Fair Board.
The native of Baxter Springs, Kan. Is a graduate of Picher High School. She studied at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College for a year.
She remained a wife and mother until three years ago when she went to work at Security Bank in Miami as a teller.
Evans is no stranger to the Ottawa County Fair, having worked as a volunteer at the past three fairs. She helped get the livestock ready for the shows.
She is no stranger to fair events having helped her mother, Lou Ann Barrett, president of the Springs Saddle Club, which put on the rodeo at the Baxter Springs. When her mother died six years ago Evans quit helping there.
Her hobbies are rodeo, showing goats and watching her kids play sports.
Evans said she sought a seat on the Ottawa County Fair Board to help out the area's kids. She hopes her first fair goes well.
“My goal as a fair board member is to keep everyone happy at the fair,” she said.
She and her husband, Justin Evans, have two daughters, Shyanne, a student at Commerce High School; and Skyler, a student at Commerce Elementary School.
