Oklahoma became the 25th state to pass an "Open Carry" law for handguns with a permit on Tuesday as Governor Mary Fallin signed State Bill 1733 that is effective Nov.1,2012.
Republican Governor Mary Fallin signed Senate Bill 1733 on Tuesday afternoon, making Oklahoma the 25th state to allow “licensed open carry,”(permit required) of handguns. The law also allows “permissive open carry,”(no permit) of handguns on private property and goes into effect Nov.1 of this year.

At 1 p.m., the Neosho River at Commerce was at 15.02 ft. with an anticipated crest tomorrow at 20.5 ft. The US Army Corp. has asked GRDA to open seven East Tainter Gates which will result in a lower peak for Pensacola (without additional rainfall.) A new forecast will be issued later today and will be posted. The NWS has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Ottawa County from 7 p.m. this evening until tomorrow morning. This could make the forecast for the Neosho change as well. At 20 ft. State Highway 125 will most likely be closed to traffic. IMPACT At 21 ft. moderate agricultural flooding occurs. Some roads within Riverview Park become flooded including Highway 125 near the fairgrounds. Additional updates will be issued as information is received.

The Oklahoma State Convention of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was hosted by Regent Diane Hamill in Tulsa on April 19, 20, 2012. Friday’s highlight was the presentation by Dr. Linda Sue Warner entitled “Without Borders.” Dr. Warner, a member of the Comanche Tribe of Oklahoma, serves as the Director Emerita of the Hope 4 Today Foundation’s Quiet Man Literacy Project. The project was able to partner with The Abraham Coryell Chapter in Vinita to provide bridge books to area schools. The books provide academic activities, using the national professional standards required of students in grades 3-5.
Hope 4 Today’s Oklahoma office was host to International guests this week from First Nations in Canada. Rebecca Beaulne-Stuebing and Sean Meades, a doctoral student in linguistics from York University, represented Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig, the Center of Excellence in Anishinabe Education at Sault Saint Marie, Ontario.
